Trex Pergola Care & Maintenance

Video Transcript

Hi, I’m Jake Panneton, Customer Care Coordinator at Structureworks and I’m going to show you how easy it is to care for your low maintenance Trex Pergola.

As with all exterior building materials your pergola will need periodic upkeep, we recommend that you inspect and clean your shade structure annually.

Start your inspection by checking that all columns are secure and stable with a simple push test. While it is normal for your pergola to have a small amount of movement, excessive movement could indicate a stability issue with the structure.

Next, check the mounting hardware at the top of each column to ensure that the hex nuts are tight and secure. The nuts should be tightened to 30 ft. lbs. during installation and annual inspections.

You’ll need to check all rafters and stringers for loose screws. Check across the stringers for any raised screws, then check the rafter connections for the same. Any loose screws should be tightened before continuing use of your pergola.

After inspection, a quick cleaning will have your pergola ready to enjoy for another year.

When cleaning your pergola, we recommend using Simple Green All Purpose cleaner diluted with warm water.

Using a soft bristle brush, give the pergola a gentle scrub and then rinse with clean water.

If you encounter any marks that are more difficult to clean, a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can be used. It’s micro-scrubber surface will remove marks without harming the surface of your Trex Pergola.

By adopting an annual inspection and cleaning schedule, your shade structure will provide you a lifetime of enjoyment.
